Miami Youth Orchestra
& Choir
The Miami Youth Orchestra and Chorus (MYO) was established in 2003 by María Salas. This 501 C 3 nonprofit organization is dedicated to fostering musical talent, providing quality education, and promoting a lifelong love of music in our community. Since our establishment in 2003, we have been committed to offering a wide range of music programs for people of all ages and levels. Our faculty is comprised of experienced and passionate instructors who are dedicated to nurturing the musical potential of each student.
MYO was created as an educational institute to serve the culturally underserved, in addition to providing youth education, historic music programs, and promoting diversity throughout the city of Miami and Greater South Florida. We are now celebrating our 21st season and are delighted to be able to give emerging young artists and students the special opportunity to perform alongside some of the city's most esteemed musicians, as well as internationally acclaimed figures. Valuable knowledge and traditions are passed on to the next generation of musicians charged with preserving classical and popular music. The director, Ms. Salas, is a product of the acclaimed “El Sistema” organization in Venezuela, from which she was inspired to build a musical paradise in the United States. She has been deeply committed to sharing the creative fusion of a lifetime of knowledge to nurture youth by creating a unique musical experience for audiences and all MYO students.
The MYO organization is committed to bringing music to life in a way that allows students to develop confidence, artistry, and foundational experiences through the discipline and art of making music. We expose them to many genres of music, such as classical , popular, Latin, jazz, musical theater and tunes from around the world, as we believe that all of these are important for the growth of young, well-rounded artists.
The intimacy and portability of our organization is based on the creation of small ensembles, allowing us the ability to bring thought-provoking musical programs to the widest possible audiences and therefore serve the diverse needs of communities. surroundings.
Last season's concerts included performances as side-by-side collaborations with ensembles from Miami Dade College at Carnegie Hall, New York, and at the Boheme Festival in Prague, along with the South Florida Youth Orchestra. Our MYO students have had the opportunity to perform in several television appearances for Telemundo and Univision. We were also invited to perform in special youth programs by the renowned Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO). Recent and notable artistic collaborations include luminaries such as Enrique Iglesias and Karol, to name a few.
